Biography

Ann Goodwin was promoted to Centre’s first-ever Associate Dean for Student Well-Being in July 2022 as part of strategic restructuring to support the success and well-being of Centre students.  She retained her role as Director of Counseling.  Ann, a Danville native, joined Centre College as a counselor September 2013, assuming the role of Director of Counseling in the fall of 2015. 

Ann received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1998 and her Master of Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis in 2003. Ann has previous experience as a mental health counselor at a community mental health center, a rape crisis/domestic violence agency, and an intensive in-home family services program. She has worked for several non-profit agencies and in 2001-2003 served as an international volunteer in Nicaragua. Ann is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Biography

Joel has been part of the Centre Counseling team since 2015.  Joel’s experience prior to coming to Centre College includes NGO work in Romania with children at risk for 8 years.   Since moving back to the USA and completing a masters degree in Marriage and Family Counseling, he gained experience working at Eastern State Hospital with severe and persistent mental illness clients, in teaching parenting and relational skills classes in the Fayette county detention center, and doing individual, family and group therapy for in a community mental health setting.  For three years before coming to Centre Counseling, he also facilitated intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment for community members and people paroled with drug related charges.

In addition to providing therapy at Centre College, Joel has participated in an Associated Colleges of the South Grant for education around supporting neuro diverse students and has lead a support group for students with Dyslexia and/or ADHD.   He has also completed 11 days of training in Nonviolent Communication (NVC) in a year long program and teaches and facilitates workshops at Centre college and in the greater community.

Biography

Mike joined Centre Counseling services in the fall of 2015. Mike began his career providing mental health therapy to at-risk youth and their families.  Mike then worked as a high school counselor until 2011.  In 2011, Michael became the Regional Director (for Boyle county and surrounding counties) for KVC, an intensive in-home mental health agency.  While at KVC, Mike served as a clinician and clinical supervisor. 

In addition to providing therapy on campus, Mike is a certified trainer in QPR (Question Persuade Refer) Suicide Prevention Training and is a trained facilitator for Green Dot Bystander Intervention.

Crystal has been part of the Centre Counseling team since August 2018.  Crystal’s experience prior to coming to Centre College includes providing therapy to diverse populations in a variety of settings including in-home, and in school.  For the last thirteen years, Crystal has provided unique interventions for individuals and families in poverty in  her role the Executive Director Family Services
