What to do in an Emergency
- Dial 911 or the after-hours crisis line depending on the severity of the situation.
- During normal business hours call: 859.238.5530.
- State that it is an emergency when the phone is answered.
- DO NOT leave a message. If no answer, contract Public Safety: 859.236.4357.
- After 4pm or on the weekends, for mental health crises please call the Centre Counseling Crisis Line: 859.319.1546.
For mental health crises, Centre Counseling provides access to an on-call Centre counselor after hours and during the weekend when school is in session. Students may contact the on-call Centre therapist by calling 859.319.1546. If the phone is not immediately answered, please leave your name and a call back number and your call will be returned within five to ten minutes. If you need more immediate support, please call one of the other resources listed.
Mental health crises include any situation when a student is threatening suicide or serious self-injury and the risk seems imminent.
All calls to the Centre Counseling Crisis Line are protected under the same strict confidentiality guidelines as counseling sessions and the same limits apply.
Please note that Centre counselors are in counseling sessions most of the day and therefore are not usually able to respond quickly to voicemails. Additionally, Centre counselors do not guarantee to check email outside of work hours. All during-the-day emergencies are referred to the above protocol and all after-hour emergencies are referred to our crisis line or to other crisis resources.
