Centre Pride Alliance: Our Purpose

Centre Pride Alliance serves as a support system for students who are lesbian, gay, bi/pansexual, transgender, queer/ gender non-binary/ gender nonconforming, intersex, asexual and/or other marginalized orientations and gender identities. CPA Membership is open to all LGBTQIA+ students as well as all allies share our goals of learning about LGBTQIA+ issues and creating a safe space and support for the queer community.

Our History

Founded in 1989 and originally threatened with violence and forced to meet off campus in secret, this organization is the longest continuously running queer student organization in the state of KY. Since our founding, Mykol Hamilton and Gary Crase, lovingly referred to as our Gaytriarchs, have and continue to play an active role in Centre Pride. Over the years, this organization has had several names including BGLAD (Bisexuals, Gays, Lesbians and Allies for Diversity) and Queers and Allies. We have chosen the current title, "Centre Pride Alliance" to reflect the expansion of those we represent and the passion with which we do so.  We seek to honor this rich heritage by continuing to improve the experience of people in our LGBTQIA+ community.
