Study In Northern Ireland
The Irish-American Scholars Program is an exclusive and selective opportunity offered to two or three juniors or seniors each year. Selected students have the opportunity to study at one of four participating institutions throughout Northern Ireland for one semester or a full year. You must be an American citizen to be able to apply to this program.
Participating Institutions:
Queens University Belfast located in the heart of the bustling Northern Irish capital. Queen's is a top 20 research-intensive institution with a range of available subjects for study. Students who study here get up close and personal with the turmoil and triumph of Northern Ireland's political history.
University of Ulster located in Londonderry, a Western town with a rich and at times controversial history, especially in relation to The Troubles. The University of Ulster has a national and international reputation for excellence.
St. Mary's University College located in Belfast, which specializes in liberal arts and teacher training.
Stranmillis University College located in Belfast, which is highly recognized for its teacher training curriculum. Stranmillis also offers courses in early childhood health and leisure studies.

Cost
Students pay their tuition to Centre, plus a non-refundable fee of $400 due to the Deputy Bursar on March 8th, 2024. Students will receive a credit on their Centre bill for room and board.
Students are responsible for the cost of flights to and from the study abroad site. Additional spending money for food or activities outside of those organized by the study abroad program is the responsibility of the student.

Deadlines & Requirements
Application window for the 2024-2025 academic year opens on November 16th, 2023 at 11:59pm and closes on February 2nd, 2024 at 11:59pm. Note: Students applying to Northern Ireland must submit their completed applications by Monday, January 29th, 2024 at the very latest as nominations to the Irish-American Scholars Program are due earlier than other programs.
Interested students can download the Irish-American Scholars Application Form in addition to submitting a study abroad application through Centre Online Forms.
Students must have a 3.2 or higher GPA and currently be sophomores or juniors. First-year students are not eligible to apply for this program.
Students must submit the following to the Center for Global Citizenship office:
– A completed Irish-American Scholars program application
– An academic transcript
– A 500-word essay describing your education objectives while studying in Northern Ireland
– Two letters of reference, one from your academic advisor and one from a faculty member or administrator
